More inclusive, more diverse.
Help shape the future of journalism.
Get involved as a mentor
It’s cool to give back. Shared Bylines is seeking mentors who share the same values and commitment to equity and inclusion in Canadian journalism.
ABOUT BEING A SHARED BYLINES MENTOR
Unlike other mentorship programs, successful Shared Bylines mentors are not chosen until after student interviews are completed. You will be paired based on the needs of each recipient, level of industry experience and desired career path. The chosen applicants will be responsible for connecting with you on a consistent basis, alongside scheduled meets. Monthly meet ups will be scheduled and mandatory for the group. Your mentee will reach out to you with miscellaneous needs. It is recommended to check in with your mentee at least once every two weeks, though perhaps more at other times depending on need (e.g. an upcoming project pitch).
Please note, your mentee will have two mentors. Two mentors!? Yes, that’s right. In our experience, having two mentors gives mentees a wider range of knowledge and experience to draw from. Plus, there's a bit less pressure to be free all the time. Between two mentors, one of you can usually be available in these busy times ;)
